R.I.P. Auckland Zoo’s Elephant
Kashin, the elephant at Auckland zoo was put down by vets yesterday. She has been suffering from foot abscesses and chronic arthiritis. She was 40 years old and had been at the zoo for 36 years. She had become depressed and withdrawn. We have some questions we are wondering about.
- Is it cruel to keep animals like elephants in a zoo?
- Was it right to put Kashin down?
- How long do elephants live for in the wild and in captivity.
What do you think?
Have you got any questions about elephants you want to ask?
Here is a video of Mr Waller’s adventures with elephants when he was in Malaysia. People got to ride on elephants and to swim with them.

I don’t think that keeping animals in a zoo is right. It all depends on how they treat them, and hoe they feed them. I also think that putting Kashin down was right because she was sick. I do not know how long they live in captivity. Come and visit my blog. My name is zeus162. Read my blogs please. God job writing about Kashin.

Yes, Charlotte, swimming with the elephants was very, very cool. I think your 5rc blog is very interesting, the camp video looks like fun. We are going to camp this year in June. Auckland can be cold in June but we have our fingers crossed that it won’t rain.
